How to Apply Edge Banding to Cabinet Refacing Doors31
Edge banding is a thin strip of material that is applied to the exposed edges of plywood or MDF to give it a finished look. It is a relatively simple and inexpensive way to upgrade the look of your cabinets. In this article, we will show you how to apply edge banding to cabinet refacing doors.
Materials you'll need* Edge banding
* Iron or edge bander
* Trim router
* Flush trim bit
* Sandpaper
Step 1: Prepare the cabinet doorsBefore you can apply edge banding, you need to prepare the cabinet doors. This involves cleaning the edges of the doors with a damp cloth and sanding them smooth. You should also remove any dust or debris from the edges of the doors.
Step 2: Apply the edge bandingOnce the cabinet doors are prepared, you can begin applying the edge banding. There are two ways to do this: with an iron or an edge bander.
If you are using an iron, simply heat up the iron to the appropriate temperature and then press it against the edge banding. The heat will cause the adhesive on the edge banding to melt, and it will bond to the cabinet door.
If you are using an edge bander, follow the manufacturer's instructions for applying the edge banding.
Step 3: Trim the edge bandingOnce the edge banding has been applied, you need to trim it flush with the edges of the cabinet door. To do this, you will need to use a trim router with a flush trim bit.
Place the trim router against the edge of the cabinet door and slowly move it along the edge. The flush trim bit will trim the edge banding flush with the surface of the cabinet door.
Step 4: Sand the edge bandingOnce the edge banding has been trimmed, you may need to sand it to smooth it out. Use a fine-grit sandpaper to sand the edge banding until it is smooth and even.
Step 5: Enjoy your newly refaced cabinet doorsOnce the edge banding has been sanded, you can enjoy your newly refaced cabinet doors. The edge banding will give your cabinets a finished look and protect the edges of the doors from damage.
