How to Install Picture Frame Molding94

Picture frame molding adds a touch of elegance and sophistication to any room. It can be used to frame artwork, mirrors, and other decorative items. Installing picture frame molding is a relatively simple project that can be completed in a few hours. Here are the steps on how to install picture frame molding:

Materials Needed:
Picture frame molding
Mitre saw
Tape measure
Pencil
Wood glue
Brad nailer
Hammer
Nails
Caulk
Painters tape

Instructions:
Measure and cut the molding. Use a tape measure to determine the length of the molding needed for each side of the frame. Mark the length on the molding with a pencil. Use a mitre saw to cut the molding at a 45-degree angle. This will create a mitered joint when the two pieces of molding are joined together.
Apply wood glue to the mitered joints. Apply a thin layer of wood glue to the mitered edges of the molding. This will help to hold the joints together when they are nailed.
Join the molding together. Place the two pieces of molding together at the mitered joint. Hold the molding in place and use a brad nailer to nail the joint together. Repeat this process for the other three corners of the frame.
Attach the frame to the wall. Hold the frame up to the wall and mark the location of the nails. Use a hammer to nail the frame to the wall. Countersink the nails slightly below the surface of the molding.
Caulk the joints. Apply a thin bead of caulk to the joints between the molding and the wall. This will help to seal the joints and prevent air and moisture from getting in.
Paint the frame. If desired, paint the frame to match the wall or another color scheme. Use painters tape to protect the wall from paint drips.

Tips:
Use a sharp mitre saw blade to ensure clean, accurate cuts.
Test fit the molding before gluing and nailing it together.
Use a level to ensure that the frame is hung straight.
Allow the caulk to dry completely before painting the frame.
