1. PurposeThe purpose of this specification is to establish the preheating requirements for the installation of edge banding on wood substrates. Edge banding is a thin strip of material that is applied to the edges of wood substrates to provide a finished appearance and protect the substrate from moisture and damage. Preheating the edge banding prior to installation is essential to ensure a strong and durable bond between the edge banding and the substrate.

2. ScopeThis specification applies to all edge banding installations on wood substrates. It does not apply to edge banding installations on metal or plastic substrates.

3. Definitions* Edge banding: A thin strip of material that is applied to the edges of wood substrates to provide a finished appearance and protect the substrate from moisture and damage.
* Preheating: The process of heating the edge banding prior to installation to improve the adhesion between the edge banding and the substrate.
* Substrate: The wood substrate to which the edge banding is applied.

4. Preheating Requirements* The edge banding shall be preheated to a temperature of 120-150 degrees Celsius (250-300 degrees Fahrenheit).
* The preheating temperature shall be maintained for a period of 1-2 minutes.
* The preheating equipment shall be capable of providing uniform heating across the entire surface of the edge banding.

5. Preheating Equipment* The following types of preheating equipment are acceptable for use on edge banding installations:
* Infrared heaters
* Hot air guns
* Heated rollers

6. Installation Procedure* The edge banding shall be preheated in accordance with the requirements of this specification.
* The preheated edge banding shall be applied to the substrate and pressed into place.
* The edge banding shall be allowed to cool and cure for a period of 12-24 hours before the substrate is used.
