How to Install Window Casing Molding104

Window casing molding is a decorative trim that frames the window opening and adds a finished look to the room. It can be made from a variety of materials, including wood, MDF, and PVC. Installing window casing molding is a relatively simple project that can be completed in a few hours.

Materials You'll Need* Window casing molding
* Miter saw
* Nail gun
* Nails
* Caulk
* Paint or stain (optional)

Instructions1. Cut the molding to length. Measure the length of the window opening and cut the molding to this length using a miter saw. Be sure to cut the molding at a 45-degree angle so that the pieces will fit together properly.
2. Install the head casing. The head casing is the piece of molding that goes across the top of the window opening. Place the head casing in the opening and nail it into place using a nail gun.
3. Install the side casings. The side casings are the pieces of molding that go on the sides of the window opening. Place the side casings in the opening and nail them into place using a nail gun.
4. Install the stool. The stool is the piece of molding that goes on the bottom of the window opening. Place the stool in the opening and nail it into place using a nail gun.
5. Caulk the joints. Once the molding is installed, caulk the joints between the pieces of molding and the window opening. This will help to seal out drafts and give the molding a finished look.
6. Paint or stain the molding (optional). If you want to paint or stain the molding, do so now. Allow the paint or stain to dry completely before using the window.

Tips* If you are installing molding around a window that is not square, you may need to use a coping saw to cut the molding to fit.
* Be sure to use a nail gun that is designed for the type of molding you are installing.
* If you are installing molding on a window that is exposed to the elements, be sure to use a caulk that is designed for outdoor use.
* Allow the caulk to dry completely before painting or staining the molding.
